Two other displays that we came across: an abstract advertisement for SPORE and the Apple Store’s window display which prominently featured our friends at the Retronyms’s Recorder App. Recorder has been in the top 10 paid apps and the #1 business app since launch. Congrats guys!

Gv: 18th between mission and valencia?
AA: That’s the one! There’s also one on a mannequin on mission near 20th… on the neck!
We don’t think that it is anyone we know, just a coincidence.

I just finished watching an absolutely fascinating program on PBS called The Journey of Man. It was a summary of the research of Spencer Wells and company whose Y-DNA genetic genealogy research has lead to a compelling “story” of human migration. Among the freshest information for me was that the first exodus from Africa was a coastal rout ~60,000 years ago that ended in Australia.

In the documentary, the interviewed Aborigines were adamant that they originated in Australia, but the amateur anthropologist in me can’t help but see many similarities between them and the Bushmen of Southern Africa. Well, anyways, I wouldn’t be the first person to point out that the Bushmen relationship to Tsodilo Hills mirrors that of the Aborigine relationship to Ayers Rock, or that both cultures ceremoniously enter into a trance state of consciousness.

Note that this image doesn’t really match Well’s findings, but it was the most aesthetically pleasing migration map that I found. One difference is that Wells’s research points to European populations being able to trace their ancestry back to Africa via Central Asia and not directly from the Middle East and Africa as this map depicts. Many Asians, Native Americans, and Indians can also trace their paternal heritage to this same Central Asian ancestry. “If Africa was the cradle of mankind, then Central Asia was its nursery”, said Wells.

I have finally joined the blogosphere! This is the first “real” post on this blog which I am considering live as of… (beat) …now!

I’m writing this post as a sort of mission statement and I’m going to try to give a brief outline of how I foresee the site developing from here.

For now the blog is held within my site’s 1999 technology, but ideally my site will eventually be held within web 2.0 technology; I have no timeline for this. Additionally it is my intention to have posts that are “serious” articles as well as casual posts. Some of the topics or sections that I am hoping to populate are:

Design – Game Design, General Design Principles

SF Mocha – reviews of cafés and, in particular, mochas in the SF Bay Area

Philosophy – Zen, Integral, Technology, Consciousness

Worth Watching – reviews or lists of media that is worth taking the time to watch (or hear or read or play… or should they be their own sections?)

Miscellaneous

To begin I will just be using the wordpress categories and metadata to differentiate the content, but once enough content is amassed I would like to have archive pages for each of these categories and a way of differentiating a random thought from a serious article.

I would also like to invite you to chime in and leave comments or engage in debate with me and the other readers, even on old posts, even on this one.

P.S.
One last note to clear any potential confusion:
There are posts on here that are older than this post. I have been taking some posts that I made on a social networking site as well as some writings and that I had laying around and entering them as blog posts with appropriate or approximate dates.
