Thanks for the response Shelly. I hope my demotion to an 86 doesn't make me sound like I'm hating on Okami, 86 is a great score! Ratings are so often inflated; I would prefer to see reviews broken down as follows: 1) Worth playing/paying money for 2) Worth playing but not worth paying money for 3) Not worth playing. I'd definitely put Okami in the first category!

First off, in your bad review, In this paragraph:

The “rejuvenation” brush mechanic requires you to draw a circle over/around a barren tree. Quite often the game’s targeting system does not register that your object of intention was said barren tree; it is not uncommon for me to have to try four times to get some trees to rejuvenate. I haven’t had any problem with any of the other brush techniques and the “cherry bomb” is surprisingly forgiving of my sloppiness.

You have one problem there. It's not the rejuvenation technigue you boob! It's the bloom technique! And of course the targeting system is percise. Cherry bomb takes it easy as long you complete a circle and have a line going through it. On bloom, did you even make a good circle without having to draw in the missing line? Are you rotating your toggle right? And make sure your brush doesn't slide off into a straight line when making a circle.

Another thing, Okami doesn't take 60 something hours! It takes at least 40. Many other players, including myself, has beaten the game in less than 60 hours! Do you need help or something? If you do, then look at a dumb walkthrough! There's not even two different endings, just one, if you care to pay attention to what the story is saying. To me, you sound like a lazy ass player.

I'm not saying that Okami is the perfect game and has absolutely no faults. I know it does, I sometimes have problems with the brush work but hey, if it's perfect then it's not a game. Everything has it's faults right? I agree with some of your goods and on your bads.

Excellent writing. Did you submit this to GDC or other magazines? These reviews should be published... don't be timid about sending them in!
