The Minor

The Integrated Arts Program is a minor and can be taken only in conjunction with a formal major in one of the schools. Students declare the minor in Integrated Arts by completing a form in the program office which is forwarded to the WCAS Office of Studies. Before graduation, students must complete a petition indicating that the requirements for the minor have been fulfilled.

The minor in Integrated Arts consists of seven courses, and while it is possible to satisfy requirements of the program in seven quarters, the time required by individual students to complete course work for the minor in Integrated Arts will vary depending upon the requirements of the individual's school and major. Therefore, students are advised to begin their work in the program no later than the sophomore year.

Students may begin to take courses in the Integrated Arts Program without first declaring it formally as a minor. The foundational course, A90 Art Process, is offered yearly in the winter quarter. Requests to take the course should be made in the program office prior to advance registration at the end of fall quarter.

The Integrated Arts Program offers an integrated way of satisfying some of the distribution requirements of the Weinberg College of Arts and Sciences, School of Speech, and School of Music. Specifically, by completing the Integrated Arts Program, students automatically fulfill the College's distribution requirements in literature and fine arts, or the School of Speech's distribution requirement in the humanities. It also permits students to double count up to two of the C-level courses in the program towards the fulfillment of elective requirements within their major. Students in the McCormick School of Engineering and Applied Science can use the program as a theme and should check the Freshman Engineering Program Office for more information.
